Base Plate Spigots Installation Guide For DIY Pool Fencing

There are undoubtedly many moving parts involved in installing glass pool fencing, especially when you are doing it yourself at home. Luckily, the team at Affordable Glass Pool Fencing are here to help! The following article is a step-by-step guide on how best to install base plate spigots for a frameless glass pool fence.

Step-by-step guide

Step 1

Mark out the centre line of the glass fence with chalk. The spacing and location of the base plate spigots will be determined by the size of glass panels used for your particular glass fencing project. Use the base plate as a template to mark out the hole positions and drill holes to suit. It is essential not to exceed 100mm gaps between glass panels; an optimum gap is 40mm to 60mm.

Step 2

At this stage, the base plated spigots can be fixed to the ground. It is a good idea to use shims under the base plates to ensure each one is plane and level. Be sure to tighten your base plates firmly to the ground, as the smallest movement at the base plate will result in the movement of the bottom of the glass fence. By setting the two out spigots of your total span, a line can be run between them, giving you an idea of what the correct height for all spigots in between should be. Do not exceed a 100mm gap from the fixing surface to the bottom of the glass.

Step 3

Once all spigots are installed, slip domical covers over the spigots' top to hide unsightly fixings. It will be necessary to turn the adjustment screws on the spigot face all the way in for the domical covers to pass cleanly over the base plate fixings.

Step 4

The glass is then installed on the spigots. It is crucial to insert plastic packers between your glass panels and base plate spigots to avoid the glass panels making contact with metal components.

This is done by;

1 Placing your glass panels in the spigot.

2 Using an Allen key to adjust the tension from the screw side of each spigot until the glass panel is held firmly in place.
